TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State traveled to Tampa, Fla. on Sunday, April 9, to face the 69th-ranked South Florida Bulls. The Bulls upset the 47th-ranked Seminoles 6-1 to drop the Noles overall record to 11-9. FSU heads into their final two matches against Furman and ACC foe Georgia Tech with a conference record of 3-4.

"Our team did not play as well as they were capable of playing this past weekend," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "Unlike the score shows, we had many guys out there that should have won. This is not a trememdous setback however going into the ACC's."

Saturday, April 15th, the Seminoles will travel to Greenville, S.C. where they will attempt to defeat Furman University for the 11th straight time. In 1999, FSU improved their record by dropping the Paladins by a score of 6-1. The match against Furman will be the Noles ninth road match of the season. FSU is 2-6 away from the Scott Speicher Tennis Center this year.

"Furman is good," head coach Dwayne Hultquist stated. "They have played some tough teams."

In the month of March, Furman has only been beaten once. Wake Forest pulled out their match against Furman on April 2nd by a score of 7-0. Furman's victories this month include VMI (5-2) on April 1st, Wofford (7-0) on April 1st, Chattanooga (5-2) on April 7th, and Davidson (5-2) on April 9th. The victory against Davidson improved Furman's overall record to 18-10. The 1999-2000 Furman roster consists of four freshman, 11 sophomores, four juniors and similar to Florida State, a lone senior.

The Tribe's final ACC match before entering the conference tournament will take place in Atlanta, Ga. where the team plays No. 70 Georgia Tech on April 16th. In the previous 10 years of competition with Georgia Tech, the Noles have gone 7-3 with losses in each of the past two seasons. On April 9th, Georgia Tech fell to Wake Forest 4-3 and on April 8th, the team fell to the streaking North Carolina Tar Heels 6-1. The loss dropped the No. 54 Yellow Jackets record to 10-10 and to 4-3 in the ACC. The team's three seniors consist of Tim Bibby, Roberto Suarez and Robert Wright.

"This is an important ACC match for us," said Hultquist. "If we win, we could be tied for fourth place. The match against Georgia Tech is winable, but not a guarantee."

Florida State will look to rebound from Sunday's loss and begin preparations for post-season play with the two matches this weekend. Florida State is in a battle with Clemson, Virginia and Georgia Tech for third through sixth place in the conference. FSU is 3-4 in the conference, Clemson is 4-3, Virginia is 4-2 and Georgia Tech is 4-3 in the ACC.
