Tallahassee, Fla.- Fresh off a 7-0 dismantling of No. 61 Clemson, the 7th ranked Florida State men's tennis team will battle No. 13 North Carolina Friday, March 21 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center beginning at 5:00 p.m.
"It's a big match and a big weekend for us," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "North Carolina is a top 10 caliber team and they only lost one starter from last year. We expect a tough match from them."
The Seminoles (12-2, 3-0) look to avenge a pair of 4-3 losses in 2007 to the Tar Heels (9-3, 1-0). FSU lost a tough match to UNC during the regular season and then fell again in the ACC Tournament semifinals. But a win on Friday night would go a long way to erasing memories from last season and put Florida State at 4-0 in the ACC for the first time since 2002.
"I think we're a little better at all positions than last year," Hultquist said. "I think we were bottom-heavy last season and this year with Jean-Yves [Aubone] and Clint [Bowles] both highly ranked, we have a much better balance this season."
FSU comes into the weekend on a three match win streak and winners of seven of their last eight including eight straight home victories. Freshman and 58th ranked Clint Bowles is riding a five match winning streak including three wins against ranked players while senior Sam Chang, junior Maciek Sykut, and sophomore Brad Mixson have all won three consecutive matches.
"Good teams are good at all spots and that's something we focus on," Hultquist said. "All six guys are playing hard and that's what it takes to win matches."
The Garnet and Gold conclude their three-match homestand on Easter Sunday against No. 66 Duke at 12:00 p.m. For live match results visit www.seminoles.com.
