TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 26 Florida State men's tennis team (11-3) starts their spring break road tip on Tuesday, March 12 against No. 6 Oklahoma. The team then opens ACC play at No. 62 Georgia Tech on March 15. The team returns home to the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on Sunday, March 17 against No. 20 Clemson.
"We start out in Oklahoma against a team that is top 10 in the country," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We then travel to Georgia Tech to start our ACC schedule. The ACC schedule is going to be very challenging as every team is better than they were a year ago."
Competing for the first time ever in Norman, Oklahoma, the Seminoles are eager to take on the Sooners after losing to them last season 6-1. The Seminoles are an all-time 1-2 against the program. The one win last season was a singles match for Andres Bucaro. The teams square off at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
"Oklahoma is coming off a very strong early season," continued Hultquist. "They are very good and have a lot of outstanding veterans. It is our first time playing out here and we look forward to the challenge."
The Seminoles head to Atlanta, Ga., for a 2:30 p.m. match against Georgia Tech on Friday. Florida State defeated the Yellow Jackets 6-1 last season and is 29-28 against them since 1954.
Last season the Seminoles defeated Clemson 4-3 and look to defeat them against this year. Florida State opens home ACC play on Sunday at noon. The all-time match record is even with both teams 18-18 since 1962.
"Georgia Tech and Clemson are both improved teams from last year," concluded Hultquist. "It's going to be two very hard fought matches as every match in the ACC will be this year. Clemson made one of the highest jumps from last year. We look forward to returning to Tallahassee to close out our trip."
