TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team (12-3, 1-0) start spring break traveling to Texas to play the No. 7 Longhorns (12-2) on Friday. After upsetting Texas in Tallahassee last year, the team looks to do the same at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
"It's always a trip we look forward to coming out to Austin," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "It's a great place to be at and a great school to hold a yearly match against. We've had a lot of great matches with them over the past few years including beating them in Tallahassee last year. Texas has had a great start this year and we look forward to playing a top ten team."
Although the first match between the two teams was in 1996, their yearly bouts started in 2008. Florida State got their first win over Texas last season.
Following the bout against Texas, the team travels to face No. 23 Clemson on Tuesday at 2:30pm.
Juniors Dominic Cotrone and Cristian Gonzalez Mendez along with freshman Grayson Goldin have all won over 10 matches this spring. Senior Blake Davis holds an 8-4 record in singles while junior Marco Nunez is 7-5.
In doubles play Cotrone and Davis are ranked No. 23 in the nation with an 8-3 record.
