GREENSBORO, N.C.- Florida State's Jean-Yves Aubone has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after the No. 35 ranked player in the country defeated a top 30 ranked player and helped the Seminoles to their first ACC victory of the season.
"Jean-Yves [Aubone] has been playing really well all year long," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "I have been really proud at how competitive he's been and for him to get ACC Player of the Week is just a real thrill and to have it two weeks in a row is exciting for our program."
A sophomore from Miami, Fla., Aubone notched a three-set victory over the No. 27 ranked player in the nation, Conor Pollock from Texas A&M on Sunday. The duo split the first two sets 6-4, 2-6 before Aubone prevailed in a third-set tiebreak 7-6(4). On Friday evening Aubone helped lead Florida State to its first ACC win of the year defeating No. 36 Georgia Tech's No. 1 player Guillermo Gomez in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Through the first half of the season Aubone has compiled an 8-1 record including a 5-1 mark against ranked players.
"So far this year he's shown that he is a top 20 player," Hultquist said. "He's beaten three players ranked in the top 25 and shown the ability to play with anyone in the country. We are proud of what he has accomplished."
Last week freshman Clint Bowles (Tampa, Fla.) earned ACC Performer of the Week honors for the Seminoles after upsetting the No. 22 ranked player in the country and clinching the match against No. 22 Pepperdine.
The Seminoles begin a three-match road trip Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Austin, Texas as Florida State takes on No. 4 Texas. For match results visit www.seminoles.com.
