Feb. 3, 2000

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State Seminoles began the 2000 dual match season last weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico against the 31st-ranked Lobos and the 16th-ranked Texas Christian Horned Frogs. On Friday, the Seminoles will host the Georgia Southern Eagles and on Saturday afternoon the Seminoles will play the Central Florida Golden Knights.

The Seminoles earned their first win of the season in their first match last weekend. The Noles upset the 31st-ranked New Mexico Lobos on Friday in a tight match, 4-3. Junior Xavier Luscan, who transferred from UCLA in January, paced the Seminoles by upsetting the country's 10th-ranked player Matt Amgwerd. On Saturday, the Noles got another upset win, this time by senior Mike Ingham. Ingham defeated the nation's 39th-ranked player Petr Koula from Texas Christian University. Ingham's victory was the lone bright spot for the Seminoles this match, as the Horned Frogs downed the Noles 6-1.

FSU's match on Friday, February 4th, against Georgia Southern will be the first home match of Coach Hultquist and Coach Roddick's Florida State career. The Seminoles have four new faces in 2000. Freshmen Joe Bassett and Rodrigo Laub will battle for playing time all season, while juniors Luscan and Jay Travis should provide quality depth through their previous collegiate playing experience. Returning for Florida State are Ingham, junior Chad Mooney and sophomores Jeff Scarella and Noah Schnell. Georgia Southern is coming off a 7-0 loss to Georgia State last Saturday. The Eagles are led by senior Kendall Swartz and junior Ryan O'Keefe.

Friday's match against Georgia Southern was originally scheduled for 3:30 p.m. but was moved up to 2:00 p.m. to accommodate traveling plans. On Saturday, the Seminoles will hit the courts at 2:00 p.m. to face the Golden Knights of Central Florida.
