TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After competing in the USTA/ITA Southeast Regionals the past four days, the Florida State men's tennis team wrapped up play on Sunday. Senior Jordan Kelly-Houston competed in the quarterfinals of the singles main draw at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
In the only match for the Garnet and Gold, No. 108 Kelly-Houston faced off against Florida's No. 17 Bob van Overbeek. The pair played a tight first set but van Overbeek pulled away for the 7-5, 6-3 win.
"Jordan had an outstanding tournament," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "He won three matches where he lost the first set. I think the key to the match was how the first set turned out. He got down a break at the beginning and was down 5-2 and fought back to 5-5. I think that was kind of the key at 5-5 that if he would have gotten the game it would have been different. He played a lot of tennis and it was a good run for him."
On Monday the finals of singles and doubles play at 10a.m. at Florida State's tennis courts.
The Florida State men's tennis team returns to action on November 2 at the USTA Clay Court Tournament at Disney.
