ATLANTA, Ga. - The Seminoles upset their fourth ranked opponent of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Tuesday to win the doubles title and advance to the USTA/ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y. on Tuesday.
Junior Benjamin Lock and sophomore Marco Nunez started the morning out with an early break to go up 2-1. The Seminoles held serve and kept breaking No. 39 Oliver Pramming and Ignacio Gonzalez of USF until the Bulls made it 7-2.
Nunez served the ball at 40-30 to have Lock control the ball at the net until Nunez closed it out with a volley which USF sent into the net to win the match 8-2.
"The guys came out really focused today," said associate coach Nick Crowell. "They prepared well prior to the match and carried that into the start of the match. They ran off seven games in a row and then closed the match with some great serving and exciting points at 7-2."
"Marco and I are ecstatic about this win," said Lock. "Today was another great day at the office. Marco played amazing and Coach Nick was doing a great job out there. I'm so happy to win this tournament and having earned a trip to New York at the National Indoors. It's a great day to be a Seminole."
"It feels great to bring the title to Tallahassee," said Nunez. "We have been working really hard this fall and the coaches have done an awesome job to get us ready for the tournament."
