Aubone And Bowles Lose In Third Round Of All-American Championships

Oct. 10, 2008

TULSA, Okla. – Junior Jean-Yves Aubone and sophomore Clint Bowles ended their runs at the D’Novo All-American Championships on Friday with a pair of third round losses.

“Both guys played really good players,” assistant coach Mat Cloer said.  “Both guys fought pretty hard, but couldn’t come up with some of the big points when we needed them.”

The 12th-ranked Aubone was defeated by No. 5 Robert Farah of Southern Cal 6-3, 7-5.  Aubone was broken once in the first set and could not capitalize on his numerous break chances.  In the second set, Farah got a break at 5-5 and then served out the match.

“In the first set Jean-Yves played one bad game on his serve,” Cloer said.  “Farah has a great serve and he just wasn’t able to capitalize on chances.”

Bowles took his match to three sets against East Tennessee State’s Enrique Olivares, 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-3.  Olivares took a 5-0 lead in the third and deciding set and even though Bowles won three straight games to cut the lead to 5-3, Olivares prevailed.

“I thought Clint competed really well,” Cloer said.  “He came back from that big deficit, but couldn’t get all the way back.”

Next up for the Seminoles will be the Mideast Regional Championships in Cary, N.C. beginning October 16.  For results and recaps log onto www.seminoles.com.
