April 24, 1998 ATLANTA -- The No. 5 seed Florida State men's tennis team defeated the No. 4 seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 4-1 to advance to the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tennis tournament on Friday. The Seminoles will now face No. 1 seed Duke at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Florida State's record now stands at 16-6 on the season. The win also marks the fourth time in the past four years the Seminoles have advanced to the semifinals.
FSU opened the match by capturing the doubles point. The No. 1 team of Ty Braswell and Davidson Kozlowski defeated Benjamin Cassaigne and Matt Cozad 9-8(6). Following them, the No. 2 team of Alex Golub and Yvo Niks beat Roberto Suarez and Robert Wright 8-4 to clinch the point.
In singles action, Florida State dominated gaining the remaining three points needed to capture the win. The clinching point came when No. 4 Mike Ingham defeated Roberto Suarez in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(3). Other singles winners No. 3 Niks and No. 6 Kozlowski.
With the win, Florida State avenges a regular season 4-3 loss to Georgia Tech on April 19th.
