Tallahassee, Fla.- The No. 16 ranked Florida State men's tennis team defeated No. 25 Texas A&M 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Seminoles (9-1, 1-0) were able to win three out of the first four singles match to put away the Aggies (4-4) and remain unbeaten at home.

"I was really pleased with how we played," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "On Friday night they [Texas A&M beat No. 10 Duke and for us to beat them 6-1 is a really great effort from the whole team.

Florida State won the doubles point, but now without its share of drama. For the third consecutive match, the doubles point came down to a tiebreaker at the No. 1 position. The No. 26 ranked team of Aubone and Bowles came prevailed 9-8(3) over the team of Krajicek and Spencer. At 3-3 in the tiebreaker, the Aggies Spencer double-faulted and in frustration knocked the ball over the fence. The umpire then gave Texas A&M a code violation, making the score 5-3. FSU won the next point and finished the match when Bowles hit a cross-court winner. The Aggies won the first doubles match at the No. 2 position as Chirico and Pollock defeated Chang and Sykut 8-5. Less than five minutes later the No. 3 team of Drew Bailey and Mixson defeated Texas A&M's Bain and Karimi 8-6. Bailey and Mixson jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but the Aggies duo roared back to get to 7-6 before Bailey could serve the match out.

"I thought the key to the match was the doubles point," Hultquist said. "Winning that match in the tiebreaker, I thought our guys really stepped up."

The Seminoles took a 2-0 lead when sophomore Brad Mixson dominated Kayvon Karimi 6-1, 6-0. Mixson needed less than an hour to dispatch of his opponent.

"The other key to the match was Brad [Mixson] dominating his guy and getting off the court really quick," Hultquist said. "I think that helps other guys concentrate on their individual matches and give us an early lead."

FSU senior Sam Chang made the match 3-0 with his victory over the Aggies Wil Spencer 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 3 position. Chang utilized his precision to move Spencer all around the court frustrating the freshman.

Texas A&M came back to cut the lead to 3-1 when Chris Chirico defeated junior Chris Cloer in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 position.

Freshman Clint Bowles came right back to clinch the match for the Seminoles at the No. 2 position. The Tampa, Fla. native defeated Austin Krajicek in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-3. In the first set Bowles went ahead 2-0 in the tiebreaker and never looked back winning 7-5. In the second set Bowles broke Krajicek at 4-3 and then served out the match At the No. 5 position junior Maciek Sykut defeated Matt Bain in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to earn the teams fifth point and at the No. 1 position No. 35 ranked sophomore Jean-Yves Aubone grinded out a three-set victory over the Aggies No. 27 Conor Pollack 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(4).
