LOS ANGELES - The No. 27 Florida State men's tennis team (5-2) finished the ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a 4-1 loss to No. 6 UCLA (4-0). Although the team lost, Connor Smith notched a win at the Los Angeles Tennis Center against his second ranked opponent of the year.
In doubles play, senior Clint Bowles (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Blake Davis (Austin, Texas) came off court two with an 8-6 loss to Alex Brigham and Holden Segura. On court three, sophomores Andres Bucaro (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Anderson Reed (Daphne, Ala.) lost to Daniel Kosakowski and Clay Thompson 8-6.
In singles play, sophomore Smith (Tampa, Fla.) came up with the lone win of the day. On court three he was able to upset No. 64 Maxime Tabatruong with a strong 6-0, 6-2 win. This was his second win over a ranked opponent this season.
UCLA clinched the bout by winning the next three singles matches. Holden Seguso defeated Bucaro 6-2, 6-2 on court six while Reed fell 6-1, 7-6(4) to Adrien Puget. Daniel Kosakowski upset No. 37 Clint Bowles 6-4, 6-0 on court one.
When play was suspended senior Vahid Mirzadeh (Wellington, Fla.) was up 6-4, 5-1 to No. 86 Amit Inbar on court two and Davis was up 6-0, 5-7, 2-1 on court four.
