Florida State Women's Swimming Finishes First Day Of Georgia Invitational In Second Place

ATHENS, Ga - The Florida State men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed first day action in the Georgia Invitational on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens. FSU completed day one with four first place finishes, six top 5 finishes and eight top 10 finishes. Both squads also ended the day in the top 3 of the team standings.

The woman compiled 221 points on the first day of competition and finished ahead Clemson (220), NC State (176) and Florida Atlantic (7). The top-ranked Lady Bulldogs ended day one in first place with 406 points. The men's swimming team racked up 227 points and was third overall after Friday's events. The 14th-ranked Bulldogs finished in first place (302) followed by Minnesota (279), FSU, Georgia Tech (133), NC State (102), Clemson (49), Florida Atlantic (43) and UNC-Willmington (14).

The Seminoles were led by their 200M free relay teams Friday night. Both squads recorded first place finishes for Florida State. The FSU men's team (Maine-Baillie, Ammons, Mashburn and Paulus) posted a time of 1:21.16 and out-paced second place Georgia by 1.5 seconds. The women's 200 free team (Adams, Cech, Bell and Williams) finished with a mark of 1:32.90 and also finished ahead of the second place Bulldogs.
 

 

Both squads also recorded first place finishes in the 50 free. The Lady Seminole's Christy Chech (:22.64) beat out two Lady Bulldogs for the top spot in the field. Greg Main-Baillie and Nnamnse Ammons finished 1-2 in the men's 50 free Friday evening. Main-Baillie posted a winning time of 20:38 and Ammons was close behind with a mark of 20:43.

Chelsie Lerew and Michelle Sekeres led the Lady Noles' divers Friday. Lerew finished second in the 3 meter with a score of 499.40 and Sekers finished third with a mark of 468.20. Joshua Edelman led the men with a fourt place finish in the 1 meter dive with a score of 277.90.

Florida State also had a strong showing in the 400M medley relay. The women's team (Goodwin, Krynauw, Nethercott) finished second with a time of 3:45.00 and the men (Main-Baillie, Cowling, Crock, Ammons) placed third with a mark of 3:19.63.
