Seminoles swimmers get first crack at the Gators

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Friday, November 17th at home against intra-state rivals, the University of Florida. The meet starts at 4:00 p.m., and will be held at the Bobby E. Leach Student Recreation Center on the Florida State campus.

The Seminoles come off a split in last week's meet against Indian River Community College. The Lady Seminoles (4-1, 0-0 ACC) defeated the Pioneers 177.50 - 65.50, while the men (3-3, 1-0 ACC) fell short in a hard-fought battle and look to get back on the winning track against the Gators. Florida enters the meet coming off impressive victories two weeks ago. The Lady Gators (6-1, 4-1 SEC), ranked 10th in the nation, defeated TCU, while the men (3-3, 2-3 SEC), ranked 8th, squeezed out a victory against the University of Michigan.

"It is a big weekend for us, a big rivalry," FSU Head Coach Neil Harper said. "It has been lopsided for a long time now. Our men's team managed to collect a couple years of some exciting victories. What we are looking for is some faster performances on the season, some really good racing, some enthusiasm, and trying to win as many individual races as we can. We certainly have some individuals who can get up and race with the best they have in some events and I think that is what we need to key on. Obviously, the relays will be exciting. I see this meet as a way for our program to build upon our season. They are a good team and they have been, so for us to make a close meet of it will be an accomplishment for us."

Some exciting events that are expected to be close ones to watch are the sprint events for the women including both the 50 and 100 Free. The men's events including the 50, 100, and the 200 Free should result in some great finishes, as well. Both the men's and women's diving events should be intriguing as well.

"I feel that if we have a good crowd and everyone is into the meet, it might help rise our swimmers a little further," Harper said. "Depending on how diving goes, both individually, and as a group, it could really dictate the results of the meet. It is going to be an exciting meet where we have nothing to lose."

The Lady Seminoles will look to gain their first ever victory against the Lady Gators while the UF men's team holds a 40-22-1 all-time record against the Seminoles.

All Seminole fans are encouraged to come out and help support the Seminole swimming and diving team.
