Men's Swimming and Diving Holds First at Dallas Morning News Classic

January 23, 1999

DALLAS, TX - In action late Friday night, the FSU 800 Free Relay team of Stephen Parry, Nelson Mora, Julio Santos and Matt McVittie took the final event of the night to give the Seminoles 161 points and the first place spot after the first night of competition at the Dallas Morning News Classic. The nine member squad finished on top ahead of #6 Tennessee, #11 Minnesota, #18 Southern Methodist, #2 Texas and #9 Michigan respectively Friday night.

Brendon Dedekind and Stephen Parry both won two events last night as Dedekind won the 50 Free and the 100 Breast and Parry won the 400 IM and the 100 Fly. Brett Petersen and Julio Santos won the consolation heats in the 100 Breast and 50 Free respectively as Greg Main-Baillie finished 4th in the 100 Back and Matt McVittie finished 4th in the 200 Free. Diver Brent Burkman finished 5th on the one-meter springboard and will compete in the three meter competition tonight.

The Seminoles conclude competition in the Dallas Morning News Classic Saturday night starting at 7:30 CST.
