Seminole Men's Golf Team To Play At Callaway Match Play Championship Oct. 28-30
All-Americans Savage and Blixt lead Seminoles into national event.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -
The Florida State University men's golf team is seeded seventh and will face 10th seeded South Carolina in the first round of the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship at the Reynolds Plantation Golf Course in Greensboro, Ga., on Oct. 28. Invitation to the event is based on 2007 Division I national championships finish (Florida State finished in a tie for 13th place) and will be held Oct. 28-30. The tournament features 16 teams that finished in the top 17 at nationals. Charlotte - winner of all three tournaments it has competed in this fall - is the tournament's top seed. Each of the 16 teams in the event will play four matches over the three days scheduled for the tournament. Florida State is participating in the event for the first time in school history.
THE 2007 CALLAWAY COLLEGIATE MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD
Florida State, the No. 7 seed in the 2007 Callaway Match Play Championship, will face No. 10 seeded South Carolina in the first round of the event on Oct. 28. The winner of the Seminole/Gamecock match will face the winner of the match pitting No. 2 seeded Alabama and No. 15 Georgia State. The six remaining first round matches have No. 1 Charlotte playing No. 16 Coastal Carolina, No. 8 Duke meeting No. 9 Florida, No. 4 UCLA facing No. 13 Minnesota, No. 5 Oklahoma State going up against No. 12 Tennessee, No. 3 Georgia Tech playing No. 14 Texas and No. 6 Georgia meeting No. 11 Lamar. The Match Play Championship will be played on the Oconee Course at Reynolds Plantation. The course -- 7,299 yard and par-72 - is a Rees Jones designed course. The Oconee Course hosted the 2007 PGA Cup.
RANKING THE SEMINOLES
Florida State is ranked 15th in the latest head-to-head ranking by GolfStat. The Seminoles spent the last three weeks in the top 7 and were ranked No. 5 during the week of Oct. 3. The Seminoles began the season ranked 15th in the nation in the pre-season GolfStat rankings. The Seminoles are ranked No. 6 nationally in the GolfWeek/Sagarin Performance rankings dated Oct. 21. Senior All-American Jonas Blixt is ranked fifth and junior All-American Matt Savage is ranked 12th in the individual GolfWeek/Sagarin Performance rankings.
JEON CARDS FIRST CAREER HOLE IN ONE
Senior Song Jeon (Seoul, South Korea) carded a golfer's dream - a hole-in-one - on the par three second hole in the third round of the Isleworth/UCF Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 23. It was the first hole-in-one of Jeon's collegiate career. Jeon's is one of 23 holes-in-one by collegiate golfers during the fall 2007 season. Jeon is averaging 76.00 strokes in two events this fall with his best round of the season - 72 -- coming in the first round of the Fighting Illini Invitational.
SEMINOLES' BLIXT AND SAVAGE TO PLAY IN ALL-AMERICAN CLASSIC
Senior Jonas Blixt and junior Matt Savage, both All-America players on the Seminole men's team, will compete in the 33rd Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic Nov. 18-20 at the El Paso Country Club in El Paso, Texas. The Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic is the only individual stroke play event sanctioned by the NCAA. It features the nation's top returning All Americans from the 2006-07 season. Past champions include Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, David Duval, Jerry Pate, Notah Begay, Nicholas Thompson and this past years champion Chris Kirk. Florida State has had seven golfers participate in the illustrious history of the event including Ken Staton, Roger Winchester and Duke Donahue.
