TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Matt Savage, one of the top golfers in Seminole history, has been named an assistant coach for the men's and women's golf programs at Florida State. He earned All-America honors in 2007, was the first player in school history to earn All-ACC honors three times, played on one NCAA Championship final and four NCAA Regional Championship teams and led the Seminoles to the first ACC Championship in school history in 2008. Savage closed his career in 2009 with a 73.09 scoring average in 44 career tournaments - the fifth best average in school history.

"I am extremely excited to come back to my alma mater and be a part of this program again," said Savage. "The opportunity to give back to Florida State University and its student-athletes is truly gratifying. To have the chance to work with Trey Jones and Amy Bond, two coaches who I played for when I was here when I played, is in incredible way to begin my coaching career."

Savage will work with both the nationally ranked Seminole men's and women's programs in the areas of skill development, recruiting, practice planning and match coaching. His unique ability to relate his experiences as both an accomplished player on the collegiate level and as a professional golfer to teach the game of golf will quickly benefit the current generation of Seminole golfers

"The addition of Matt Savage to the coaching staff at Florida State is very exciting for our team," said Seminole women's head coach Amy Bond. "He was an outstanding player during his career as a Seminole and has the demeanor to be an outstanding coach. Matt will bring a great perspective to our players - on both the men's and women's teams - and coupled with his enthusiasm and work ethic he will help us recruit top players and raise our level of play on the course."

Savage was one of the building blocks of the Seminole men's program under Director of Golf Trey Jones from 2006 through his graduation from Florida State in 2009. The Seminoles were nationally ranked during each of his four seasons and finished the 2008 season ranked 11th after winning the ACC Championship for the first time in school history. The Seminoles were ranked as high as No. 7 nationally and earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA West Regional Championship in 2008.

Savage began his professional career on the NGA Hooters Tour soon after his graduation from Florida State and enjoyed three prosperous years on golf's third largest tour. He won his first event as a professional - the 2009 Kentucky Open - and was among the top money winners on the tour during his three seasons. Savage has also played on the Buy.com tour during his career.

"Matt's outgoing personality and strong work ethic, coupled with his knowledge and love for Florida State University will be an outstanding asset as we recruit high caliber men's and women's golfers to our program," said Director of Golf Operations and head men's Coach Trey Jones. Matt was an important part of our 2008 ACC Championship team and the 2007 NCAA Championship 10th place team. His past experiences in the garnet and gold make him just as hungry as the rest of us to complete our ultimate quest of a National Championship."
