TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After three weeks off, Florida State men's golf team is set to play three tournaments in the next three weeks beginning Friday at the Brickyard Collegiate Championships hosted by Mercer at the Brickyard by Riverside. The Seminoles tee off at 9:24 a.m.
"It's going to be a good test up there," said head coach Trey Jones. "There are a lot of rolling hills and a lot of tall pine trees. If you hit the ball out of the fairway you're going to hit some thick rough. The scores that usually win the tournament are usually somewhere between 8 and 11 under."
Playing for Florida State this weekend are sophomores Rowin Caron and Hank Lebioda with freshmen Jack Maguire, Cristobal Del Solar and Josh Lee. Freshman Anthony Alex makes his garnet and gold debut but is playing as an individual.
No. 23 Florida State is joined by No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Georgia Tech, No. 13 GRU Augusta, No. 14 Virginia Tech, No. 27 USF, Boston College, Chattanooga, Furman, Georgia State, Gonzaga, Louisville, Mercer and Princeton. Air Force was originally scheduled to compete, but their entry was canceled due to the government shutdown.
No current student-athletes played in the Seminoles last appearance at the Brickyard Collegiate in 2011. Brooks Koepka won the individual title that year with the team finishing second.
