TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - The Florida State men's golf team, which finished in sixth place at the power-packed Olympia Fields Invitational to open the fall season, is ranked 18th nationally in the most recent Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches' poll released on Sept. 28. The Seminoles have moved into the nation's top 20 after beginning the season unranked. Florida State was one of four teams to move into the rankings after beginning the season unranked and is the highest of the formerly unranked teams currently ranked in the bi-monthly poll.

The Seminoles are the third highest ranked of the five ACC teams in the poll - behind Georgia Tech (tied for fifth) and Clemson (12) and ahead of Duke (21) and Virginia (23). The ACC is the third most represented league in the poll behind only the Pac 12 (seven teams including No. 3 Stanford) and the SEC (six teams including No. 1 Auburn).

Florida State finished in sixth place at the season opening Olympia Fields / Fighting Illini Invitational at the Olympia Fields Country Club to open the fall season. In finishing sixth in the event, the Seminoles placed as the top finishing team among the unranked squads in the tournament and ahead of then No. 7 ranked Florida (seventh place), then No. 13 Illinois (tied for eighth), then No. 22 Augusta State (tied for 10th), then No. 20 Ohio State (tied for 10th) and then No. 8 Duke (13th).

"One of our goals is to improve each day and continue to improve throughout the season," said head coach Trey Jones. "A national ranking is good for our program and our school and illustrates the progress we have begun to make. We want to keep moving up in the polls because that means we are continuing to get better. Our ultimate goal is to be at the top of the polls at the end of the season."

The Seminoles' national ranking marks the fifth consecutive year they have been ranked in the top 25 under Jones' leadership.
