TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's golf team, which is currently ranked ninth in the nation in this week's Golf Week/Nike Coaches Poll, travels to Illinois this weekend to play against one of the toughest fields they will face during the fall season with some of the nation's top programs at the Fighting Illini Invitational Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The event will host twelve highly competitive national contenders, including defending national champion Stanford. The Seminoles are making their first trip to the second annual tournament which is being held at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois. The course, a par-70, 7,157 yard Willie Parker design, hosted the US Open in 2003 and is regarded as one of the top fifty golf courses in the United States.

THE 2007 FIGHTING ILLINI INVITATIONAL FIELD
No. 9 Florida State is joined by 11 nationally competitive programs at the fighting Illini Invitational. Making the trip to Illinois alongside the Seminoles are No. 5 Stanford, No. 8 Duke, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 13 Oklahoma State, No. 14 Arizona State, Indiana, Northwestern, Purdue, Texas, UCF and the host team - Illinois. Duke enters the tournament as the defending team champion - the Blue Devils defeated Stanford by six strokes to win the inaugural event championship. Niklas Lemke, who completed his eligibility at Arizona State following the 2007 season, won the individual championship last season.

RANKING THE SEMINOLES
Florida State is ranked in the nation's top 10 for the second consecutive week and is ranked No. 9 in the PING/GolfWeek national rankings. The Seminoles finished seventh at last week's 2007 Ping/Golfweek Preview at Purdue University. The Seminoles are currently the third highest ranked team in the ACC, trailing only No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 8 Duke and is ranked ahead of seven teams who finished in the top 10 of the team standings at the 2007 NCAA Championship.

TRACKING SAVAGE'S INDIVIDUAL FINISHES
Junior All-American Matt Savage (Louisville, KY.) finished in a tie for 13th place at the PING/GolfWeek Invitational with a three-round total of 219. He played the final two rounds of the event at two-under par after opening the event with six-over par score of 78. Savage finished in a tie for 13th place in the individual standings to mark his second top-15 finish of the fall season. He has finished in the top-15 of the individual standings in six of his last 10 events including a tie for ninth place finish at the 2007 NCAA Championship. Savage has finished in 25th place or better in 13 of his last 14 events since the beginning of the fall 2006 season.

KITTLESON PLAYS WELL IN HIS FIRST TWO COLLEGIATE EVENTS
Freshman Drew Kittleson (Scottsdale, Az.) has played in both of Florida State's two early season events and is in the starting line-up for the Seminoles' at the Fighting Illini Invitational. He is averaging 74.67 strokes in his first six collegiate rounds and has been the most consistent Seminole through the first two events of the season. He carded a 75 in the first round of the PING/Golf Week Invitational and identical scores of 74 in the second and thirds rounds. Kittleson has not finished any round with a score above 76 or a score below 74 and is third on the team with three scores under 75.

FLORIDA STATE BY THE NUMBERS
Two players - All-Americans Jonas Blixt and Matt Savage - have carded five scores of 75 or below in their first six rounds this season...Four players - Blixt, Savage, Seath Lauer and Tommy Rymer - have all carded at least one round at par or better in the first two events of the season.
