TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State University men's golf team is ranked 10th and the Seminole women's golf team is ranked 23rd in this week's national Golf Week national collegiate polls. The Seminole men began the season ranked 11th and moved up one position while the women began the season unranked and moved into the poll for the first time this season.

Florida State is one of 16 schools nationally and one of only three in the Atlantic Coast Conference to have both its men's and women's teams ranked in the national top-25 this week.

The Seminole men finished seventh in last week's Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club. The event included six of the nation's top 20 ranked teams with the Seminoles finishing ahead of No. 1 ranked UCLA by 10 strokes and No. 15 Duke by one stroke. Florida State will play in the PING / GolfWeek Preview Sept. 28-30 with a chance to increase its national ranking even more - a total of 12 of the nation's top 25 ranked teams will play in the event at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Florida State's men are led by senior All-American Matt Savage (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Drew Kittleson (Scottsdale, Az.). Savage is a two-time All-ACC selection while Kittleson will play in the 2009 Master's and US Amateur Championships after finishing as the runner-up at the U.S. Amateur this past summer.

The Seminole women opened their season with a fifth place finish at the Cougar Classic. The Cougar Classic included six of the nation's top 25 teams with the Seminoles besting No. 16 LSU and finishing within one stoke of No. 9 Virginia. The Seminoles are in action next as they play in the Lady Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 3-5 at University of North Carolina Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Carolina Westrup, who won the individual championship at the Cougar Classic for the fifth victory of her career, is the nation's No. 1 ranked female collegiate golfer by GolfWeek. Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) is a pre-season All-American and a favorite to become the first four-time All-American and four-time All-ACC selection in school history.

Westrup was named the Golf World Women's Collegiate Player of the Week after shooting the low score of the final round (66) at Yeamans Hall Golf Club to claim medalist honors at the Cougar Classic. She finished with a 10-under 206 en route to her fifth career victory.
