TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida State senior golfer George McNeill was named to the All-ACC men's golf team today. McNeill, a native from North Fort Myers, FL and ranked 26th in the latest Rolex Collegiate Golf Rankings, was the only Florida State representative on the 10-member team.
McNeill finished the regular season schedule with a stroke average of 72.38 in 32 rounds. He finished the year with one tournament victory, three top five finishes and nine top 20 finishes in 11 tournaments. Shooting a three-round total of 207, McNeill captured his first career tournament victory at the Tennessee Tournament of Championships in October. McNeill also led the ACC with 11 sub-par rounds and was second with six rounds in the 60's.
Georgia Tech's Matt Kuchar was selected Player of the Year by the coaches, while teammate Bryce Molder won Rookie of the Year honors. Clemson's Larry Penley captured his third straight ACC Coach of the Year award.
Florida State and McNeill travel to the NCAA East Regional this weekend in Hilton Head, SC. The tournament, featuring 11 teams in the top 20, is being held at the Melrose Golf Course on Daufuskie Island. The top 11 teams and two individuals will qualify for the NCAA Championships at the University of New Mexico on May 27-30.
