WINDERMERE, Fla. - Coming into the second round of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitation, the Florida State men's golf team knew they had to play some strong golf and sophomores Rowin Caron and Hank Lebioda did just that to push the team up four spots to sixth place.
The team posted a 4-under 284 on Monday, an eight stroke improvement from Sunday's performance. The team is 24 strokes behind first place Alabama, but is only six out of third. The Seminoles tee off Tuesday at 8:50 a.m. to close out the tournament.
"Hank and Rowin gave us good rounds today," said head coach Trey Jones. "It is good to see both of them in the top after two rounds."
Both Lebioda and Caron are 4-under through two days to tie for fourth place in the individual standings. Lebioda posted six birdies today for a 4-under 68 while Caron had a 3-under 69.
Freshman Jack Maguire posted a five stroke improvement with a 2-over 74 and is tied for 64th. Also contributing to the team score is freshman Josh Lee with a 1-over 73. Lee is tied for 43rd after making four birdies.
"Jack and Anthony had opportunities to play good rounds early on but made some mistakes that young players can easily do on this course," continued Jones. "I am proud of Jack's 74. He had lost a lot of confidence in the past few days and really competed well today."
Closing out the team is Anthony Alex who is tied for 51st. The freshman carded a 4-over 76 after going 5-over on his last nine holes of the day.
The 15-team field has 14 teams ranked in the top 50 including No. 1 Alabama, No. 4 California, No. 6 Illinois, No. 11 New Mexico, No. 15 Texas, No. 16 UCF, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 23 Vanderbilt, No. 31 GRU Augusta, No. 34 LSU, No. 35 Texas Tech, No. 47 UNLV, No. 48 TCU and North Florida.
