WINDERMERE, Fla. - The No. 29 Florida State men's golf team finished the first round of the 10th annual Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in 10th place, 12 strokes behind first place Alabama.
"The course and weather were perfect today," said head coach Trey Jones. "The hole locations required discipline and execution to play well. The freshmen are beginning to understand what they need to do to become more complete players. For us to play well in this field, we are going to need one or two low rounds each day."
Caron played strong on the front nine with three birdies. After the turn he made two bogeys to finish the day with a 1-under 71, tied for 16th. Lebioda is tied for 23rd after balancing three bogeys with three birdies to shot an even par 72.
Freshman Anthony Alex is tied 39th in the tournament with a 2-over 74. Alex led the team with 5 birdies on the day but was hurt by a double bogey on four and a triple bogey on 15. Freshman Josh Lee played an even 36 front nine before closing out the day with a 3-over 75 to sit tied for 48th.
Closing out the Seminoles is freshman Jack Maguire who is tied for 69th with a 7-over 79.
The 15-team field has 14 teams ranked in the top 50 including No. 1 Alabama, No. 4 California, No. 6 Illinois, No. 11 New Mexico, No. 15 Texas, No. 16 UCF, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 23 Vanderbilt, No. 31 GRU Augusta, No. 34 LSU, No. 35 Texas Tech, No. 47 UNLV, No. 48 TCU and North Florida.
