NEW LONDON, N.C. –The No. 19 Florida State men’s golf team fought through heavy rain and strong winds Friday to sit atop the leaderboard after the first round of the ACC Championship at Old North State Club. The team posted a 4-under 284 and holds a four stroke lead over second place Georgia Tech.

“Solid start to the tournament but we know it is just the start,” said head coach Trey Jones. “I am proud of how the guys handled themselves when the wind and rain picked up on the back nine. Our young guys are learning the course and will feel more comfortable with each round.”

Sophomore Hank Lebioda leads the team after turning in a 4-under 68. Lebioda is in second place after carding a 34 on both the front and back nine with five birdies on the day. He is three strokes behind Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans.

“Hank’s game has been better than his results lately,” continued Jones. “He kept the ball in a position to score all day today. He is our team captain and played like it today.”

Freshman Cristobal Del Solar also came in under par with a 1-under 71 and is tied for sixth. Del Solar turned in three birdies while freshman Jack Maguire turned in two. Maguire is tied for 15th with an even par 72.

Senior Joaquin Lolas had a 73 and is tied for 21st while sophomore Rowin Caron turned in a 4-over 76 and is tied for 43rd.

“We want our guys to keep having fun and gain confidence every day,” concluded Jones. “If we do that, we will give ourselves a chance on Sunday.”

The Seminoles tee off beginning at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
