PALM CITY, Fla. - After two rounds of golf at the Valspar Invitational at the Floridian Golf Cub, freshman Jack Maguire leads the tournament as the No. 12-ranked Florida State men's golf teams sits tied for sixth place with a 7-under 561. The 15-team tournament closes out Tuesday as the Seminoles tee off at 9:42 am from the 10th hole.

"We had a perfect day to play golf for the first 30 holes," said head coach Trey Jones. "The final six were in a steady rain fall. I was glad to see us improve as the day went on and play one of the better rounds in the afternoon."

After a difficult first round, the Seminoles sat in 10th place with a 2-under 282. Maguire, the No. 38-ranked player according to Golfstat, was the only Seminole to turn in a below par scorecard. He posted a 6-under 65 by drilling a 20-foot putt for eagle on the sixth hole and combining that with four birdies.

"Jack came out and executed at a high level from the start and was 4-under through his first four holes," continued Jones. "He played solid golf throughout the day and put the team in a position to have a chance to win tomorrow. Each of the other players did some good things today and some things they need to improve on."

Senior Joaquin Lolas and sophomore Rowin Caron each posted a 1-over 72 while freshman Harry Ellis contributed the final score to the team total with a 2-over 73. Sophomore Hank Lebioda had a 4-over 75. The field went straight into the second round.

Maguire continued his stellar play as he made six more birdies during the round. With only one bogey, he posted a 5-under 66 for a 11-under 131 on the day. He leads the tournament by two strokes over LSU's No. 20 Stewart Jolly.
