Men's Golf in Second Place at Seminole ClassicBertsch tied for individual lead.
March 10, 1998 TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--The Florida State Seminoles are in second place after two rounds of the Seminole Classic at the Golden Eagle Country Club. The Seminoles shot rounds of 297 and 296 to stand ten strokes behind first-place University of North Carolina. Southeastern Louisiana University is currently in third, three strokes behind the Seminoles. The Seminoles were led by sophomore Nathan Bertsch. Bertsch, a native of Gulf Breeze, FL fired an opening round 69 and held on to a share of the lead with a 74 in the afternoon round. He is currently tied with James Driscoll of Virginia with two-round totals of 143. Jason Pool used a one-under round of 71 in the afternoon to move into a tie for third with Tim Clark of MC State and Ross Bain of North Carolina. NC State's Clark fired the low round of the day with a 66 in the second round. Seminole junior Mark Monroe remained steady with rounds of 75 and 73 today to stand tied for 11th with the final round being played tomorrow. Barry Dyche and George McNeill struggled in the opening round of the day, shooting 80 and 81, respectively. Both golfers fired 78's in the second round. Dyche is tied for 52nd, while McNeill is tied for 56th. Several individuals from Florida State also participated in the first two rounds. Freshman Kris Hannah, a native of Tallahassee, FL, shot back-to-back rounds of 76 to finish tied for 20th. Craig Cochran, a junior from Rosemont, PA, is tied for 39th at 156. Ryan Felty is also tied for 39th after recording an opening round 72. Mark Donaldson, Tommy Cochran and Blair Jarrard rounded out the scoring for individuals participating in the Seminole Classic.
