Oct. 21, 1997 Florida State Adds Football Opponent For 2001TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State University Director of Athletics Dave Hart announced Tuesday the addition of UAB as an FSU football home date in 2001. The UAB Blazers, who have been speculated to become a member of Conference USA by that time, are tentatively scheduled to play FSU on September 8, 2001. UAB joins Miami and Florida as the non-ACC foes in 2001. "As we looked at future football scheduling, filling two non-sequential dates (FSU had one opening in 2001 and another in 2004) became problematic as it related to securing a home-and-home series," said Hart. "We decided to fill those two dates with no-return options. UAB now fills one of those voids and we continue to explore alternatives to fill the other date." The date with UAB gives the Seminoles an additional home date in 2001. FSU's non-conference future schedule through 2006 shows:
USC, at Miami, Florida
Auburn, Miami, at Florida
at Auburn, at Miami, Florida
UAB, Miami, at Florida
Notre Dame, at Miami, Florida
at Notre Dame, Miami, at Florida
TBA, at Miami, Florida
at Texas A&M, Miami, at Florida
Texas A&M, at Miami, Florida
