Florida State Football Prepares for USC Trojans

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- The No. 5 Florida State Seminoles had their final rehearsal practice Thursday afternoon for 15 periods with no pads.

The practice began with kicking drills, where Bill Grammatica went 4 of 4 from inside 25 yards and Sebastian Janikowski was 2 of 2 from 45 yards out.

Highlighting the defensive side of practice was cornerback Samari Rolle who had three interceptions, two for touchback during 7 on 7 skeleton drills. Also turning in impressive performances were: Dexter Jackson, 1 INT, 1 PBU; Shevin Smith, 2 PBU; Tay Cody, 1 INT, 1 PBU.

On the offensive side, Thad Busby completed 36 of 41 passes during 7 on 7 drills, including 14 straight. He connected several times with E.G. Green, Peter Warrick and Ron Dugans for lengthy touchdowns passes. Back-up Dan Kendra went 16 of 17, while third string Chris Weinke was 12 of 15. Each reserve connected with Warrick, Green and Dugans for long receptions. Out of the backfield, starting tailback Dee Feaster ran off three runs of 20 yards or more during the drills.

Practice ended with two series of the two-minute drill offense. The first series ended with a 30-yard Grammatica field goal and the second series ended with Busby connecting with Green on a 40-yard touchdown pass.

"Today's practice was a typical Thursday practice," said Coach Bobby Bowden. "We went out and rehearsed everything. We didn't go intense, we don't fly and no collisions. Just try and learn our assignments.

"I think we've done everything you could do to prepare for a ball game."

No injuries were reported following practice.
