Seminoles Continue Preparation for Season Opener
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The No. 3 Florida State Seminoles continued preparation for their season opener against Southern Cal with a 23-period practice in full pads this afternoon. The team started with the kicking game and then worked on fundamentals before finishing with 11-on-11 scrimmaging for the last three periods.
"We didn't go scout squad today like I had hoped," said head coach Bobby Bowden. "We will try to do that tomorrow. We had some guys banged up and they need to get healthy."
In the 11-on-11, quarterback Thad Busby was again involved in the day's biggest play, connecting with wide receiver Laveranues Coles on a 50-yard touchdown strike against the No. 2 defense. On the defensive side, cornerbacks Samari Rolle and Coronta Cody led the way with a pair of pass break-ups. Rolle returned to practice for the first day after suffering an ankle injury last week.
Practice will continue tomorrow afternoon and a scrimmage is scheduled for Friday.
Injury report: DE Greg Spires (right ankle sprain), WR Tres Walton (asthma attack), DE Roland Seymour (right ankle sprain), and CB Abdual Howard (right hip flexor strain). S Shevin Smith, RB Travis Minor and WR Laveranues Coles were held out of contact. WR Marvin Minnis, WR E.G. Green, DE Andre Wadsworth, LB Demetro Stephens, RB Dee Feaster and WR Peter Warrick were held out of practice.
