Seminoles Continue Practices
TALLAHASSEE, Fl -- The No. 3 ranked Florida State Seminoles continued two-a-day practices on Saturday, with an 8:30 a.m. morning session and a 4:30 p.m. evening session. The Seminoles practiced in shorts during both sessions.
Both practices began with specialist workouts, including kicking and punting drills. Freshman kicker Sebastian Janikowski consistently reached the back of the endzone with impressive hang time in the morning.
To follow, the team broke off into segment drills and then intersquad drills with the receivers and defensive backs.
"We got through another hot one this morning," said Coach Bobby Bowden. "The boys really responded well. I can see improvement each day and can tell we got a little bit better this morning.
"Samari (Rolle) really stood out today. Our motto this year is 'I got my man,' and I singled Samari out after practice because he really did have his man. He made a couple of interceptions in drills and really blanketed his man.
"Laveranues Coles was very encouraging catching the ball today. He is running his routes well and made some fine catches. Once he completely learns the wide receiver position, he will be very dangerous.
"The quarterbacks looked pretty good. Thad (Busby) seems to be getting better and better. He is getting the ball where it needs to be, to the right receiver and on time."
In the evening, various receivers, including Germaine Stringer, Peter Warrick, Marvin Minnis, Damian Harrell and Ron Dugans, all took deep passes off of Busby, Dan Kendra and Chris Weinke. Coles went down with a right ankle injury after getting tied up with Troy Saunders on a deep pass from Busby. Coles did not return for passing drills to follow. The Seminole football team will participate in media and fan appreciation day on Sunday. On Monday, the team will begin practice in shells, with full pads beginning Tuesday.
Injury Report: Laveranues Coles, WR, left ankle strain; Shevin Smith, RS, lower back strain; Eric Thomas, OG, right knee sprain; Bobby Rhodes, LB, right hamstring pull; E.G. Green, WR, right quadricep strain.
