Florida State Heads Up List Of Six ACC Consensus Football All-Americans
Warrick, Janikowski were two of eight unanimous selections.
Dec. 14, 1999
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Four Florida State Seminoles head up the list of six
consensus 1999 All-Americans from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Florida
State led all Division I-A teams with four players earning consensus
recognition - wide receiver Peter Warrick, placekicker Sebastian
Janikowski, offensive lineman Jason Whitaker and defensive lineman Corey
Simon. Warrick and Janikowski were two of eight unanimous All-America
selections.
The ACC, with six consensus All-Americans, was second only to the Big
Ten's seven for most consensus All-Americans in 1999. The SEC had four
consensus All-Americans followed by the Pac-10 and the Big 12 with three
players each. The Big East, Mountain West and Conference USA each had one
consensus All-American.
To earn consensus All-America status a player must be named on at least
four All-America teams or three teams with a majority of the votes at his
position. The six organizations recognized for consensus All-American
consideration are the Associated Press Football Writers (FBWA) the
American Football Coaches (AFCA), The Sporting News The Football News and
the Walter Camp team.
Over the past three years the ACC has produced 17 consensus All-Americans,
more than any other conference. The Big Ten is second with 16, followed
by the Big 12 (15) and the SEC with 14.
