TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -

Both of the Waterford crystal footballs that were stolen from the pedestals of the 1993 and 1999 National Football Championship trophies in Florida State's Moore Athletic Center have been recovered by the Florida State University Police, according to Assistant Police Chief Tom Longo of the FSU Police Department. Two men have been charged in the thefts.

The two crystal footballs were stolen on June 23, 2004, from locked trophy cases inside the football offices at FSU's Moore Athletic Center, which was being renovated at the time of the theft.

"We're very glad to have them back, and we are really pleased with the police work that has led to the success of this investigation," said FSU President T.K. Wetherell. "Our police department worked hard and stayed with this case and, as I understand, they got great cooperation from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office and several other agencies. It has always been sort of a senseless crime."
