Tallahassee, Fla. - On Tuesday the Seminole football team began to install the game plan they will use versus No. 11 Virginia Tech (7-2, 4-1) in Blacksburg Saturday. The team spent 21 periods in full pads working for almost the entire practice versus scout teams. With Day Light Savings Time in effect, practice finished up under the lights on field one.

TEAM NEWS

  • Seminole kicker Gary Cismesia was named one of 20 semi-finalists for the Lou Groza Award on Tuesday. It is the second consecutive year the senior from Parrish, Fla. has been named one of the 20 best placekickers in America.

PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS

  • After working on special teams, the Seminoles broke up into units and began working versus the scout teams.
  • Although it was a little later than usual, the team did break up and work on 1-on-1 and inside drill. In 1-on-1 Michael Ray Garvin picked off a pass and Ochuko Jenije broke up a pass but Rod Owens picked it out of the air for the completion. Both Damon McDaniel and De'Cody Fagg hauled in long passes. When the drill moved inside the 10 yard line, Bert Reed, Owens, Preston Parker, McDaniel and Greg Carr all pulled in TD grabs. Jenije did record a PBU in goal line that no receiver was able to pick off.
  • In inside drill Antone Smith had an impressive power run as he shed a few tackles and turned in a long gainer. Seddrick Holloway and Russell Ball also had nice runs. Dekoda Watson had the biggest defensive play with a tackle behind the line.
  • While pass rush was taking place on field two, the offense was making some big plays in skel. D'Vontrey Richardson hit McDaniel and also completed a beautiful deep ball to Owens. Weatherford hooked up on a long play with Charlie Graham and a deep ball to Parker. He also completed three other passes to Fagg.
  • The defense got a measure of revenge in 11-on-11 as Darius McClure and Eli Charles both recorded sacks.
  • Goal line started off with a Weatherford to Graham TD. Jamaal Edwards then took one in from short yardage. The D stopped the next two running plays. The final one was blown up by Kendall Smith with help from Benjamin Lampkin.

QUOTES

Coach Bowden Quotes

On the keys to the Virginia Tech game:

"I thought we had a good practice. It's going to be very important this week (special teams). This is what Virginia Tech features is a good kicking game. It's been good. We need some blocked punts and some returns for touchdowns - I don't think we've had any of that. I don't think there's any question they're quicker, faster, and have better athletes than BC and they're very aggressive with a lot of experience.

Wide Receiver Preston Parker:

"The fourth-quarter drills really pay off. We do them everyday so we can learn how to finish. Thanks to them we can go five, six quarters. The special plays are a lot of fun. With their defense (VT), there's people everywhere. They spread people out so you have to throw into the holes. The run game will also be a factor. Once we start running it they will come in and we'll hit the holes."

Linebacker Dakota Watson

"It's going to be two great teams going at it. There are two great defenses so the offense will play a big role. Special teams will play a tremendous role because that is what helped us win a lot of games in the previous years. Special teams is going to be a big key. The defense has to play as a team and be disciplined and have the intensity we had up at BC. For the first time in a while we played 60 minutes - not just the defense but the offense, too. You see what we can do when we play as a team. That's the whole key - focus. We can't get too complacent. We beat BC but that's in the past. We're going to Virginia Tech, they're not BC."
