The Seminoles worked out on the band field Monday night.

Oct. 3, 2005

The No. 4 Florida State Seminoles (4-0, 2-0 ACC) held their normal Monday night practice in shorts on the artificial surface of the band field as they began to prepare for Saturday's home game against Wake Forest (2-3, 1-1 ACC). The game is scheduled for a noon kickoff and will be televised by Jefferson-Pilot. The Seminoles will have a little extra to play for as many of them will have family in town for Parents' Weekend. Starting defensive end Darrell Burston was held out of the majority of the Syracuse game with a shoulder injury and his status for Wake Forest has not yet been determined. Burston did not practice Monday and if he is unable to go, sophomore Alex Boston would start in his place. In other news, redshirt freshman Drew Weatherford was named ACC Rookie of the Week for his performance in the win over Syracuse. Weatherford had three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown against the Orange. The game time for Virginia was announced and the road contest will start at 7:45 p.m. (ESPN).

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH Bobby Bowden

(on defensive end Darrell Burston)

"I guess Burston is the only one that came out of that game where we are not going to know what his status is going to be. It didn't sound good talking to Randy (Oravetz)."

(on Wake Forest)

"You know what they have done? They have gone back to their old offense. They were running an offense much like Syracuse and they were not scoring any points. Last week they went back to their old offense with all of the options and reverses. They have created some problems now."

PLAYER QUOTES

Tailback Leon Washington

(on Wake Forest)

"They are a scrappy bunch. I got hurt against them last year so I am going to have a little extra motivation for them this year. They are sound and disciplined. They are going to play hard so it is a good thing we have them here. Every year we have played them, we have struggled and they have played right there with us. They are going to come at us and we are going to come at them."

Defensive End Alex Boston

(on Wake Forest)

"Jody (Allen) was telling us that they run a lot of misdirection and we are going to have to play in our gaps and just really be disciplined again this week. The test will be Saturday and hopefully we will do our job and come out and hit them."

(on being back in the top five)

"I think that it is a big deal. It comes from great coaching and great off-season training. I think it is a big deal for all of us. We have a lot of seniors leaving and they want to leave with a national championship under their belt. The younger guys really want to help out as much as we can."

(on possibly starting against Wake Forest)

"Really we have been splitting time a lot together so I can't say that it is going to be a big difference as far as being the starter. I still have to do the same job that I have been doing and continue to push myself harder so that I can improve each and every day."
