First Half Game Notes
Williams' Kickoff Return a Career High
Sophomore safety/kick returner Karlos Williams' kick-return of 59 yards in the first quarter was a career long. His previous career-best was a 33-yard return against Maryland in 2011.
Greene Scores A New Way
Sophomore wide receiver Rashad Greene's 10-yard touchdown on an end-around in the first quarter was his fourth score of the season and his first career rushing touchdown. Greene has now scored twice on punt returns, once receiving and once rushing in 2012. He becomes the first Seminole to score three different ways in a season since Peter Warrick scored eight touchdowns receiving, three touchdowns rushing and one touchdown on a punt return in 1999. He is also the seventh different Nole to score a rushing TD this season.
First Time FSU Has Been Outgained in the First Quarter.
USF outgained Florida State, 144-85, in the first quarter. That marks the first time FSU has been outgained in the opening period since Notre Dame outgained the Seminoles, 69-18, in the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl.
Dawkins' Sack First By a Non-DE This Year
Senior defensive tackle Everett Dawkins' sack in the first quarter was the Seminoles' 14th of the season, but the first one that came from someone other than a defensive end. Junior Bjoern Werner (6.5), senior Cornellius Carradine (5.5) and senior Brandon Jenkins (1.0) had combined for all of the Seminoles sacks heading into tonight's game.
Hopkins Takes Sole Possession of 2nd in FSU history in Field Goals Made
Senior Dustin Hopkins' two field goals in the first half were the 67th and 68th of this career moving him into second-place in FSU history, passing Sebastian Janikowski (66) and Xavier Beitia (67) moving him closer the Seminole record of 73 held by Derek Schmidt (1984-87).
Second Quarter March Longest Scoring Drive of the Season
Florida State's 12-play, 6:28 second quarter drive that ended in a Dustin Hopkins' field goal was the longest scoring drive for the Seminoles this season and first over six minutes. The previous long was a 13-play 5:34 drive in the third quarter versus Wake Forest. The Seminoles' first four scoring drives (all touchdowns) against Clemson took a TOTAL of 6:11.
O'Leary Nabs New Career High in First Half
Sophomore tight end Nick O'Leary tallied four receptions in the first half for 40 yards, besting his previous career high of three receptions done three times prior, including last week against Clemson.
EJ On Point
Senior quarterback EJ Manuel completed 12 of 15 passes (80 percent) in the first half. The ACC's most accurate passer ever, Manuel upped his career completion percentage to 67.5 percent.
