Sept. 17, 2008

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  – Wednesday’s FSU football practice was spent almost exclusively working versus Wake Forest scout teams. That is not that unusual for a Wednesday but for the first time this season the coaches were able to work against an opponent they were familiar with. The Demon Deacons have won two straight games versus Florida State and are one of the favorites to win the ACC’s Atlantic Division.

PRACTICE NOTES

PRACTICE QUOTES

Head Coach Bobby Bowden

Opening Statement:

“We had to celebrate down there – somebody finally got an interception. Tony Carter got one. We ain’t had many games or practice. We kind of got excited about one of them. We had a great catch by Cameron Wade. Everything else went about like you had planned. We have had good practices. Looks like we have come out pretty decent on the injury situation. We will rehearse our game plan tomorrow and be ready to go.

How much of an impact will Preston Parker and Budd Thacker have on Saturday night?

“They can have one if they will have one. They can got out there and play average and not even be noticeable. If they play up to their capabilities, it will ne a help.”

Did Graham Gano get some more work today?

“He might have gotten a little bit; I didn’t see him getting a lot. I’d have kept my eye on him and I didn’t see him getting a lot of work. If he is healthy he adds to punting – well our punting hasn’t bee bad – he adds to what extra point and field goals that we have been missing. It would be nice to have him back but if he is not healthy he can’t it.”

Has there been any separation between Zach Hobby and James Esco?

“I couldn’t answer that yet. We will probably decide tomorrow who we are going to go with.”

Are you concerned about your offensive line in Saturday’s game?

“If you look at it on paper, especially in plays played and maturity and stuff like that, they have seven redshirt seniors – that’s fifth year guys – seven starters on defense. Then they have got another one who has graduated. That’s eight of them really and we are sitting there with three freshman and two sophomores. I’m anxious to see how it matches up. Sooner or later you have to face the good ones and that’s what – we will find out a lot this week.”

What are you going to look for early in the game on Saturday?

”Execution is about the only thing. You hope that you can execute. If you execute you are usually oaky. Of course, the other team is trying to destroy your execution.  It would be nice to get some good execution. The last two ball games we have executed the first halves and it’s going to be much more different this week.”

Quarterback D’Vontrey Richardson:

If we can expect anything different from him on Saturday:

“I don’t know. Coach will usually tell us the exact game plan on Thursday.”

If he will get a chance to go in the game:

“I am going to be ready whether it’s first quarter or fourth quarter. I’m going to be ready.”

His reaction to the coaches preparing for him and Ponder to play:

“Yes it surprises me. Hopefully I’ll get in there and help the team. It’s all Christian right now though. He is going to lead the offense.”

On Christian’s confidence growing:

“Yes his confidence is going up a lot. His momentum is going up.”

On his preparation:

“My confidence is up. I’m going to be ready. I will be in coach’s ear ready if I get the chance.”

On whether he has suggested anything to Jimbo Fisher:

“Not really. I just go to the meetings and sit. That is really Christian and Drew’s place.”

Cornerback Tony Carter:

On Christian being a good quarterback:

“He makes the right decisions. He is an accurate quarterback.”

On putting pressure on the opponents quarterback:

“No quarterbacks like pressure. There is more pressure in these bigger games. We just need to do our best and make him better. He isn’t going to make bad decisions by just sitting back. We are going to put some pressure on him and force him to make bad plays.”

On trying to get an interception:

“Sometimes you just want them so bad but when the time comes, you hesitate a little bit. I just need to get back to my fundamentals. I just need to get the ball.”
