Today we continue our look at the thirteen players to watch for 2013 with senior linebacker Telvin Smith.
Head coach Jimbo Fisher has described Smith as a player who "plays with his head on fire." The engine truly never stops for the senior from Valdosta.
Smith makes plays, plain and simple. He's always around the ball, and you can always count on him to bring everything he has no matter what--in practice, pre game, and on every snap. He had a great season in 2012, finishing third on the team in total tackles with 64 and even added 9.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
He has a knack for making the big play at just the right time, and is always a fan favorite to watch. Even on kickoffs, Smith is constantly jumping up and down and takes great pride in his leadership through both words and actions.
Last season Smith backed up Vince Williams at the mike linebacker position, but has been switched to the will linebacker spot for this season, allowing him to make plenty of plays in space with great speed. He will be counted on to continue making big plays and to lead alongside fellow senior linebacker Christian Jones.
Smith has an uncanny knack for reading plays better than most college linebackers, and that prowess will be heavily relied upon this season. Look for Smith to continue to pump up every fan inside Doak Campbell and play with the same fire and intensity like he always does.
Come back on Monday as we continue looking at the thirteen players to watch for 2013 with redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston.
