TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State guard Rodney Hudson has been named a Preseason Third-Team All-American and ACC Second-Team pick and center Ryan McMahon has been named an ACC First-Team selection by Phil Steele.
Steele also ranks Hudson as the nation’s fifth-best draft-eligible guard.
The credit marks the second preseason honor for Hudson as the Mobile, Ala. native was named a Preseason First-Team All-American by NationalChamps.net in April. McMahon has also already been placed on the Spring Watch List for the Rimington Award– an annual honor given to college football’s top center.
Hudson and McMahon enter the 2009 season as the anchors of a Seminole offensive line that is expected to not only be one of the best units in the Atlantic Coast Conference but in the country as well.
In addition to FSU’s two star offensive linemen, sophomore tackle Andrew Datko and redshirt sophomore receiver Bert Reed both made the ACC Third-Team and redshirt junior quarterback Christian Ponder was placed on the ACC Fourth-Team.
Defensively, linebackers Nigel Bradham and Dekoda Watson earned ACC Second- and Fourth-Team selections, respectively.
Senior cornerback Patrick Robinson was also recognized, as Steele pegged him as the 10th-best draft-eligible defensive back in all of college football.
Steele, whose annual college football preview magazine hits newsstands each summer, recognized Florida State as the No. 34-ranked team in his Preseason Top 40 Poll. He ranked FSU even higher in his Power Poll, as talent-wise Steele considers the Seminoles to be the country’s No. 24-ranked squad.
According to Steele, FSU will play college football’s second-toughest schedule.
Each year Steele also ranks the top 500 incoming freshmen and new Seminoles Jacobbi McDaniel, Dustin Hopkins and Greg Reid were all given very high marks on that list. McDaniel was listed as the No. 1 defensive lineman, Hopkins the No. 1 kicker/punter and Reid the No. 9 defensive back amongst first-year players in the entire nation.
