TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Lindy's Football has released its Preseason Top 25 poll, predicted conference finishes and preseason all-conference first and second teams and Florida State is well represented.
The Seminoles are ranked at No. 18 in Lindy's 2009 Preseason Top 25 and are joined by Virginia Tech (five), Georgia Tech (16) and North Carolina (19) as the Atlantic Coast Conference programs that made the early rankings. Additionally, the Seminoles are set to face Florida and Brigham Young (25th) during the season.
No. 18 is the highest preseason ranking given to FSU by Lindy's since the Seminoles were ranked No. 12 prior to the start of the 2006 season. Florida State was ranked preseason No. 25 by the publication last year and No. 21 the season prior in 2007.
In addition to a top-25 overall ranking, Lindy's expects Florida State to have a lot of success in the ACC this season as the publication has predicted the Seminoles to finish first in the Atlantic Division.
That success will have a lot to do with Florida State's student-athletes and five of them have been placed on Lindy's Preseason All-Conference Teams.
The Seminoles return all five starters to an offensive line that could be one of the best in the country and three have been recognized by Lindy's. Junior All-America candidate Rodney Hudson and redshirt junior center Ryan McMahon (a preseason candidate for the Remington Award) are both on the offensive first team while sophomore Andrew Datko finds himself on the offensive second team.
On defense, senior linebacker Dekoda Watson and senior cornerback Patrick Robinson have both been named to the preseason all-conference first team.
