April 13, 2012 By: Brandon Mellor, Seminoles.com Senior Writer TALLAHASSEE, Fla . -- The Florida State football team held nearly four weeks of spring practices in preparation for the Garnet and Gold Game but there was one final task that needed to be completed before the Seminoles could take the field Saturday. FSU needed to pick teams for the 4 p.m. game. The 'Noles seniors tackled that job Friday afternoon by holding a "draft" in the coaches conference room to establish the rosters for the Garnet and Gold teams. The Garnet Team, which is led by such seniors as Rodney Smith, Cornellius Carradine, Dustin Hopkins and Anthony McCloud, selected junior safety Lamarcus Joyner with the first overall pick. Paced by such seniors as EJ Manuel, Lonnie Pryor, Nick Moody and Brandon Jenkins, the Gold Team then selected redshirt freshman Kelvin Benjamin with the second overall pick. The following players will not compete Saturday due to injuries and will select teams before kick-off:
The game may not start until the late afternoon but spring-game weekend festivities start Friday evening with the free Friday Night Block Party featuring Dueling Pianos and country-music star Lee Brice. On Saturday, fans can then enjoy the 4th Annual BBQ Cook-Off on Langford Green outside Doak Campbell Stadium. Former FSU and current Detroit Lions defensive end Everette Brown will serve as one of the guest judges for the competition. Tailgate lots open at 9 a.m. and parking is on a first-come, first-serve basis. ESPNU and ESPN3.com will then simulcast the game, which is free to attend. Seminoles.com will also host a live game chat and will provide full post game coverage after the final snap. |
