Last but not least on our breakdown of Florida State's 2013 signees is five-star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who, until just before national signing day, was a verbal commitment to USC.

Ramsey was one of the top players in the 2013 class but didn't have the Seminoles on his recruiting radar until late in the process. A native of Brentwood, Tenn., the standout football player and track athlete that, like his future teammates Marvin Bracy, Ronald Darby and Jameis Winston, will also compete on FSU's track and field team.

“He’s a very dynamic guy," FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said. "He’s a decathlete and he’s a long-jump guy. Very explosive, can run. He’s a very top notch man, a very Christian young man. He’s got it going on."

At 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, Ramsey fits the mold of the "new" defensive back. Long, athletic and fluid, he'll have a chance to develop into a shutdown cornerback once he gets to Tallahassee.

Ramsey was considered one of the nation's best high school football players in 2013.

And with the 'Noles he'll get a chance to learn from one of the best in Jeremy Pruitt, who was the primary reason that Ramsey wound up with Florida State despite not considering them through most of the recruiting process. When Pruitt was hired from Alabama by FSU this past December, Ramsey began seriously considering the garnet and gold because of Pruitt's track record with producing elite defensive backs.

Pruitt had played college football with a friend of Ramsey's father so he had a personal connection to the five-star prospect.

"He's got size and he's got speed," Pruitt said. "… Jalen has got a chance to be a really good player. Great character kid. He's a track guy, decathlon he was a state champion in Tennessee."
