Florida State needed as many quality linebackers it could get this recruiting cycle and E.J. Levenberry was one of five standout signees at the position when the dust settled on National Signing Day last month.

A star player at C.D. Hylton in Woodbridge, Va., Levenberry gave a verbal pledge to the Seminoles April 24, 2012. He remained steadfast in that commitment despite some strong late pressure for several schools including Tennessee, which he took an official visit to just five days before he signed his name on the dotted line in favor of FSU.

The Volunteers' loss is certainly the Seminoles' gain.

With Christian Jones and Telvin Smith entering the senior years and with Vince Williams and Nick Moody no longer on the roster, adding depth not just for the future but for the 2013 season was critical for the 'Noles and Levenberry helps fill that need.

At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds with good speed, vision and instincts, Levenberry could line up at any three of the linebacker positions for his new coach, Charles Kelly. He'll have an immediate opportunity to contribute once gets to campus this summer considering FSU isn't particularly deep at that position.

"E.J. Levenberry, great size and length and can bend his lower body – very physical," FSU coach Jimbo Fisher. "He’s a very good player. We’re very excited about him."

Levenberry was one of the top linebackers in the country in 2013.

Levenberry had scholarship offers from coast to coast as a high school prospect, with such programs as Florida, USC, Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan and many others all interested in his services.
