LOOK FOR FLORIDA STATE TO...
...Defeat BYU and advance to the championship game of the 2012 Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament. It would mark the third time in the last five seasons the Seminoles had advanced at least as far as the championship game of a regular season tournament. Florida State won the championships of the 2008 Global Sports Classic and the 2009 Old Spice Classic; ...Defeat BYU and gain its third consecutive victory over a team from the West Coast Conference. The Seminoles topped Loyola Marymount in each of the last two seasons with a win in Los Angeles and a win in Tallahassee; ...Defeat BYU and win its second ever game against a team from the state of Utah. The Seminoles defeated Utah State in the second round of the 1997 Preseason NIT.

BRANDON IS FIRST TRUE FRESHMAN STARTING POINT GUARD SINCE 2009
Freshman Montay Brandon started the first game of his career at the point guard position in Florida State's victory over Buffalo on Monday. He totaled eight points, four rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes of playing time. Brandon became the first true freshman to start at the point guard position for the Seminoles since Feb. 14, 2009 when then freshman Luke Loucks started and led Florida State against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem.

FLORIDA STATE ON THE DEFENSIVE
Led by junior Terrance Shannon's five steals in the first two games of the 2012-13 season, the Seminoles are right where they left off last season - at the top of the ACC steals category. The Seminoles led the ACC with a 7.6 steals per game average. In averaging 10.0 steals per game through their first two games, the Seminoles have one more steal than North Carolina (19 steals / 9.5 spg) and twice as many as Virginia Tech (10 steals / 5.0 spg) through two games. Florida State led the ACC in steals in 2012 (7.6 spg) and in its first season in the league in 1992 (9.4 spg). The last team to lead the ACC in steals in back to back seasons was Clemson in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Since steals became an official league statistic in 1976 only three different school have led the league in steals in consecutive seasons: Duke (1984 and 1985), (1988 and 1989), (2001 and 2002), Maryland (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997), (1999 and 200) and Clemson (2005 and 2006), (2008, 2009, 2010).

FLORIDA STATE ALSO ON THE OFFENSIVE
Led by three players in double figures and 12 of 14 players who earned playing time with points in the scoring column, Florida State scored 95 points in its victory over Buffalo on Monday night. Head coach Leonard Hamilton and his staff have put an added emphasis on offensive execution this season and that emphasis on putting the ball in the basket has paid off during the first week of the season. The Seminoles have already scored 90 points or more as many times in the first two games this season (once, 95 vs. Buffalo) as they did in 35 games during the 2011-12 season (once, 90 vs. North Carolina on Jan. 14). Florida State enters the final two rounds of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament averaging 83.0 points scored per game.

SHOOTING 50 PERCENT FROM THE FIELD IS AN ANOMALY AGAINST FLORIDA STATE
Florida State has been the top field goal percentage defense team in the country in the last three seasons as it has led the nation in that most important of categories twice since (and ranked in the top five in each of the last three seasons). So, when Buffalo, shot 50 percent from the field on Monday night in Tallahassee (27-54, .500 percent) it was more an anomaly than the norm against Leonard Hamilton's Seminoles. In the last five seasons and 138 games only five teams (just under four percent) have shot 50 percent or better from the field against Florida State.
