TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -
Florida State, which defeated Nicholls State in its season opener, plays host to Georgia Southern in its second game and second home game of the 2007-08 season at the Donald L. Tucker Center Monday at 9 p.m. The Seminoles and the Eagle renew a series that dates back to the 1948 season - the first season of Seminole basketball. Florida State played host to Georgia Southern on Jan. 15, 1948 in the fifth men's basketball game in school history. The Seminoles fell to the Eagles (then known as Georgia Teacher's College), 60-56, in a game played in Tallahassee. The game is the first round of the inaugural Glenn Wilkes Classic which features eight teams playing four games each. Each of the eight teams will play a first round game at a pre-determined home site and then all eight teams will travel to the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., for their remaining three games of the event. Florida State will play UAB Friday night at 8:15 at the Ocean Center in the second round of the classic.
THE GLENN WILKES CLASSIC
Florida State will play host to Georgia Southern in the first round and travel to Daytona Beach to play UAB (Nov. 16, 8:15 p.m.), Cleveland State (Nov. 17, 6:00 p.m.) and USF (Nov. 18, 8:30 p.m.) in the eight-team Glenn Wilkes Classic. Four schools (Florida State, Rhode Island, Alabama Birmingham and USF) will (or have) played host to first round games. Following the first round games at the home sites, the four traveling teams (Georgia Southern, Florida Atlantic, Stetson and Cleveland State) will join the four hosts in Daytona Beach for three days of basketball with four games on each day at the 8,000 seat Ocean Center. The classic falls under the NCAA's Multiple Team Event Format which allows teams to play multiple games with all four counting as only one date on each team's maximum 28-date schedule of games.
DOUGLAS NAMED COUSY AWARD CANDIDATE
Toney Douglas, Florida's States leading returning scorer from last season, has been named a candidate for the 2008 Bob Cousy Award presented annually by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The Cousy Award recognizes the top collegiate point guard participating in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III. Douglas averaged 12.7 points per game for the Seminoles to go along with 2.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. The junior from Jonesboro, Georgia shot 47.5% from the field and 78.8% from the charity stripe. Douglas is one of seven players from the ACC named as a candidate and only one of forty players nominated nationwide.
LOOK FOR FLORIDA STATE TO...
...Defeat Georgia Southern and win its second game of the season. It would mark the third consecutive season and fifth time under sixth-year Head Coach Leonard Hamilton that the Seminoles will have won at least their first two games of a season;
...Defeat Georgia Southern and defeat a Southern Conference team for the first time since Nov. 23, 2001 when it defeated Elon, 89-59, in Tallahassee.

Florida State enters Monday's game against Georgia Southern having won 12 consecutive (1.000 winning percentage) non-conference home games. The Seminoles defeated Nicholls State (Nov. 9; 81-58) to open the 2007-08 season and were a perfect 11-0 at home during the 2006-07 season.
