TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Incoming freshman guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes, who will begin his Seminole career this fall, helped lead Canada to the quarterfinals and a sixth place finish in the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships which took place June 27-July 7 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Rathan-Mayes, who was the team's third leading scorer and third in assists, played in all nine games averaged 12.2 points per game, 2.0 assists and pulled down 3.4 rebounds per game.

The Ontario, Canada native had a personal tournament high nine rebounds and 40 minutes played, while adding 15 points and two assists to Canada's 110-100 triple overtime win over China on July 7. He score his tournament high 17 points while contributing two rebounds, one assist and one steal during the first game of the tournament against Spain on June 27th -- an 80-71 loss. Rathan-Mayes also contributed a tournament high of five assists, scored 13 points on five of seven shooting from the field including three of five from the 3-point line on July 2.

Canada went 4-5 in the U19 World Championship tournament. The team qualified for the final round finishing 1-2 in the prelims with an 81-70 loss to Spain (June 27), a 79-66 loss to Croatia (June 28) and 93-75 win against Korea (June 29). They went 2-1 in the final round losing to Lithuania 82-76 (July 1) and advanced to the quarterfinals with wins over Iran, 95-57, and Argentina 78-62 (July 3). Canada fell to the USA, which won the FIBA U19 World Championship, 109-67 (July 5) and recovered to post its 110-100 victory over China the following day. Canada fell to Spain, 76-68, on July 7 marking an end to its run in the tournament and a sixth place overall.

The tournament gathered teams from 16 countries around the world and featured some of the world's most talented player's born in 1994 and after in Prague, Czech Republic. The United States, Canada, Brazil and Argentina represented the Americas contingent.
