TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - The Florida State men's basketball team will play host to Nebraska in the 16th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge on December 1, 2014 at the newly renovated Donald L. Tucker Center as the entire schedule for one of the top early season college basketball events of the season was announced by ESPN. The Seminoles and the Cornhuskers will meet for the second time following a 74-60 win by the Seminoles on December 31, 2005 in the Orange Bowl Classic.

Florid State is the third winningest team in ACC play since the start of the 2005-06 season and has played in a school record nine consecutive post-season tournaments - all under head coach Leonard Hamilton.

The 2014 ACC/Big Ten Challenge will be played over three days (December 1-3), feature a record 14 games with each one scheduled for television on the ESPN family of networks, and see the debut of Louisville as a member of the ACC and Maryland and Rutgers as members of the Big Ten. The times and network designations for the 2014 ACC/Big Ten Challenge will be announced in August.

Three of the games will feature a showdown between teams ranked in an ESPN.com early preseason top 25: No. 2 Duke at No. 4 Wisconsin, No. 25 Iowa at No. 6 North Carolina and No. 21 Syracuse at No. 24 Michigan. No. 7 Virginia will travel to play at Maryland, No. 8 Louisville will play host to Ohio State and No. 18 Michigan State will travel to play at Notre Dame.

The ACC and Big Ten have split the past two events, winning six Challenge games each in 2012 and 2013. The ACC won the first 10 Challenges (1999-2008) while the Big Ten won the next three (2009-2011).

Florida State returns four of its top six scorers and five of its top six rebounders from its NIT Final Four team in 2014 including All-American candidate Aaron Thomas. Thomas averaged a team-leading 14.5 points, a career-high 4.3 rebounds and a team-leading 1.6 steals per game in leading the Seminoles to a 22-14 record this past season. Thomas was an All-ACC Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore. The Seminoles also return their leader in assists, Devon Bookert, and their blocked shots leader, Boris Bojanovsky, to their line-up for the upcoming season.

The Seminoles defeated a pair of ranked teams (No. 10 VCU and No. 20 UMass) and topped Florida Gulf Coast, Georgetown and Louisiana Tech in advancing to the semifinals of the NIT this past season. Florida State has played in the NCAA Tournament in four of the past six seasons.

Nebraska finished with a 19-13 record and played in the NCAA Tournament in 2014. The Huskers return all five starters from a team that finished fourth in the Big Ten with an 11-7 Big Ten mark, the most conference wins by Nebraska since 1965-66. The Huskers return seven of its top eight scorers, and top-five rebounders from a year ago. In the only other meeting between the team teams, Isaiah Swann scored 16 points and Andrew Wilson added 15 to help Florida State to the victory in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla.. Future NBA First round pick Al Thornton totaled a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Seminoles. The ACC currently holds a winning edge of 10-3-2 for the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.

Nebraska is Florida State's eighth different opponent during the first 16 years of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Seminoles have played Minnesota five times, Northwestern four times. Ohio State twice with one game each coming against Iowa, Purdue, Wisconsin and Michigan State.

Season ticket orders are currently being accepted by the FSU Ticket Office for the Seminoles' 2014-15 schedule of games which features North Carolina, Louisville, Pittsburgh and Nebraska and six more exciting ACC games amongst others yet to be announced.
