Basketball Signs New Recruit

APRIL 20, 1998

TALLAHASSEE, FL--Emanuel Mathis, a native of Atlanta, GA, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Florida State University.

Mathis, a 6-3 guard, was a first team, Class A All-Georgia selection last season after averaging 28 points per game at Holy Innocent School. He is considered one of the best pure shooters in the nation after hitting 45 percent of his three-point attempts as a senior and making 51 percent from the field. Mathis led his team in scoring, rebounding and steals in each of the last three seasons.

"Emanuel is a young man with a tremendous upside," said Florida State head coach Steve Robinson. "He is a great shooter who plays smart and has a good feel for the game. He needs to get stronger but has a solid game and will be a great addition to our program both on and off the court."

Mathis, a full academic qualifier, selected the Seminoles over Alabama, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech. He joins Marietta, GA's Antwaun Dixon as players who have signed with Florida State during the spring signing period.
