Seminoles To Face No. 1 North Carolina In ACC Tournament Semifinals

ATLANTA, Ga. -
No. 22/22 Florida State, which defeated Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, will play No. 1/1 ranked North Carolina in the semifinals of the 2009 ACC Tournament on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga. It marks the first time since the 1992 season that the Seminoles have advanced to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament. The Seminoles fell to No. 20 North Carolina, 80-76, in the Charlotte Coliseum that year. Florida State has not played on semifinal Saturday in the ACC Tournament since that season - its first year as a member of the nation's top basketball conference. Florida State's victory over Georgia Tech upped its record to 24-8 with the 24 wins ranking as the most since the 1992-93 season when it earned a 25-10 record and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles won a school record 27 games during the 1971-72 season in advancing to the NCAA national championship game. The Seminoles' 23 victories are the third most in school history.
DOUGLAS EARNS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS BY THE SPORTING NEWS
Toney Douglas, who scored 25 points in the Seminoles' victory over Georgia Tech, has been named a Third Team All-American by The Sporting News. It marks the first All-American mention for the ACC Player of the Year runner-up and ACC Defensive Player of the Year. It marks the second All-American selection for the Douglas family as Toney's older (by 18 months) brother Harry was a Second Team All-American as a wide receiver at the University of Louisville in 2008. Harry currently calls the Georgia Dome his home as a wide receiver/kick returrner for the Falcons.
FLORIDA STATE A BIG WINNER AS ACC ACCOLADES ARE HANDED OUT
All-America candidate Toney Douglas was named the ACC Player of the Year runner-up, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive team while Leonard Hamilton was named the ACC Coach of the Year. Solomon Alabi and Chris Singleton were named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Alabi was also named to the All-Defensive team.

DOUGLAS LEADS FLORIDA STATE WITH 25 POINTS AGAINST GEORGIA TECH
All-American candidate Toney Douglas scored 25 points in the Seminoles' ACC Tournament quarterfinal round victory over Georgia Tech. It marked the fourth consecutive game and the ACC leading 22nd time this season that he has scored at least 20 points in a single game. Douglas scored 20 or more points seven times as a junior, five times as a sophomore and 12 times as a freshman during his only season at Auburn. He has scored at least 20 points nearly as many times in 32 games this season (22) as he did during the first three years and 95 games of his career (24 times).
DOUGLAS'S SCORING TOTAL...
...He has scored a career-high 670 points and is averaging a career-high 20.9 points scored per game. His 670 points is the fifth highest single-season scoring total in school history. Douglas is looking to become only the second player in school history to score 700 points in a single season and the first since Jim Oler scored a school record 742 points during the 1955-56 season. Douglas is approaching All-American Al Thornton's total of 690 points during the 2006-07 season;
...He has scored at least 17 points in every Seminole game since totaling 20 points against Pittsburgh on Dec. 21. He has totaled 412 points for an 18.7 points per game average in his last 20 games;

All-American candidate Toney Douglas leads the ACC in total points scored (670) and is ranked second in steals (62). He is only two steals behind Georgia Tech's Iman Shumpert who saw his season effectively end with the Yellow Jackets loss to the Seminoles in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.
KITCHEN SCORES THE GAME-WINNER AGAINST GEORGIA TECH
Sophomore Derwin Kitchen scored eight points, including the game winning basket with 7.7 seconds remaining, to help lead Florida State to its' ACC Tournament quarterfinal victory over Georgia Tech. It marked the first late-game, game winning basket of his career. He has now scored 76 points in the last seven games for a 10.8 points per game scoring average since he scored 13 points in the Seminoles' 80-67 victory over Miami on Feb. 18.
SINGLETON BLOCKS SEASON-HIGH TYING FIVE SHOTS AGAINST GEORGIA TECH
Freshman Chris Singleton blocked a career-high tying five shots in the Seminoles' quarterfinal ACC Tournament victory over Georgia Tech. It marked the second time this season that Singleton has blocked five shots in a game (also against Maryland on Jan. 17) and the 12th time he has blocked multiple shots in a single game. Singleton's five blocked shots are tied for the third most blocked shots in a single game by a freshman in ACC Tournament history.
SINGLETON ON THE DEFENSIVE END
Freshman Chris Singleton blocked five shots and earned one steal in the Seminoles' victory over Georgia Tech on Friday. He enters Saturday's game against No. 1 North Carolina with 52 steals and 43 blocked shots on the season. He is the only freshman in the ACC to rank in the top 10 in the league statistics in both blocked shots (43, 10th) and steals (52, eighth).
ALABI INCREASES ACC LEADING BLOCKED SHOTS TOTAL
Freshman Solomon Alabi blocked two shots in the Seminoles' ACC Tournament quarterfinal victory over Georgia Tech to bring his career total to 80. He is only the second freshman in school history to block at least 69 shots in a season while his 69 blocked shots ranks as the 15th highest single season total in school history.
