TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State University and Head Basketball Coach Leonard Hamilton are proud to announce that Dave Cowens will represent the Seminole Basketball program as a Legend of ACC Basketball at the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Washington, D.C. March 10-13. Every year each conference school selects one former player to represent the best in their program's history. This year there are eleven former players from each ACC team including the most recent additions of Miami and Virginia Tech.

Cowens will represent the Seminoles after experiencing an illustrious three-year varsity career while wearing the garnet and gold. During his career, he led the Seminoles to the 1968 NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history with a record of 19-8. The Seminoles' 19 wins that season ranked second in school history at that time. He also holds many records in the rebounding category and ranks among the top ten in points. Cowens is the Seminoles' all-time leader in rebounds with 1,340 and rebounds in a season with 456. He ranks eighth in scoring with 1,479 points.

After his career at Florida State, he excelled in the NBA. He was the fourth overall pick in the 1970 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics. During his career in the NBA, he received Rookie of the Year honors, the 1973 All-Star MVP and league MVP trophies. In 1991 he was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame as a seven-time NBA All-Star.

He has enjoyed a successful coaching career in the NBA. He won more than 150 games in just over four seasons including with the Charlotte Hornet and Golden State Warriors. During his coaching career, he coached former Seminole standout Bob Sura while at Golden State in 2001.
